Lifesouth Community Blood Centers

Business Challenge:
LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is a system of non-profit, volunteer blood centers that provides blood components and services to more than 110 medical facilities in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. LifeSouth is federally licensed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is a member of, and accredited by, the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), the AABB National Blood Exchange, and America's Blood Centers. The organization's mission is to provide the highest quality blood components and services at the lowest optimum cost. Regulated by the FDA, LifeSouth desired a more efficient method of staff training and continuing education that could be tracked, verified and automated.

The Solution:
LifeSouth selected the Intelladon produced Advanced Learning Platform (ALP(tm)), the Brandon Hall e-Learning Shootout Winner for Ease-of-Use as its digital course authoring solution. LifeSouth chose the ALP point and click learning management system to provide in-house software and medical training required by regulatory authorities. The ALP, which will render interactive training solutions through advanced digital, video and Web-based technologies, offers LifeSouth and many other organizations subject to regulation compliance training for pennies a day.

Return on Investment:
While LifeSouth already had a traditional training system in place; Intelladon introduced a new digital course-authoring component that enhances the organization's blended learning program. The tracking and reporting functionality of the ALP allows training managers to verify that all relevant staff members have taken updated procedures, allows access to live reports on who has and hasn't taken specific courses within the LifeSouth team, and deliver reports instantly to auditors. This provides a return on investment in two respects: (1) compliance reporting is streamlined, thereby streamlining staff hours and decreasing margins for errors in reporting, and (2) live tracking results can be measured and used to erase gaps in training-and therefore minimize potential for human error in the process of providing blood components and services throughout a three-state region.
