Emerson-ERS

Business Challenge:
Electrical Reliability Services is the nation's leading independent electrical testing, maintenance and engineering service company. With service centers located throughout the West, South and Midwest, ERS helps thousands of customers ensure that equipment, processes and personnel function within a cohesive integrated system to produce intended results. Emerson's Electrical Reliability Services also offers training courses and writes customized classes to meet customers' needs on topics ranging from electrical safety, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The organization is substantially dispersed with 34 offices in ERS alone (which is only one division of its parent company, Emerson). Electrical Reliability Services sought to offer a new training and learning environment to various offices inside and outside the company. It needed an e-learning training solution that was comparatively cost-effective, offered a wide range of course development features, and provided the ability for ERS to internally develop slides and modules quickly.

The Solution:
Electrical Reliability Services selected Intelladon's Advanced Learning Platform for its ease of use and competitive pricing model. ERS has used Intelladon for a variety of training applications including electrical safety and other courses in the technical field. Electrical Reliability Services' most extensive project including the ALP involved an Oracle training program reaching more than 500 employees in nearly fifty different offices across two Emerson divisions. ERS built the operating manual for the software on the Intelladon platform as well as the user's Oracle training program.

Return on Investment:
Electrical Reliability Services achieved tangible cost savings by utilizing the ALP in its 6-month Oracle training program. With the ALP's involvement, the program required only 12 on-site instructor-led trips. Without the ALP in place for this effort, managers estimate the same educational project would have required as many as 36 on-site visits. Each of the estimated additional 24 trips would have required at least two professional trainers (working at a rate of approximately $20/hour) to travel by air to each respective destination and dedicate at least two days of training for each site visited. Under terms of these estimates, additional costs in manpower would have totaled approximately $15,000. Assuming $50/day in meals and miscellaneous expense per trainer, a $250 flight ticket for each destination, and $150 nightly lodging, additional logistical costs without the ALP may likely have exceeded $30,000-with total projected direct ROI exceeding $45,000-for the Oracle project alone.
