IAPMO

Business Challenge:
The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, known by its acronym, IAPMO, ushers improvements in the application of commonsense codification and application of ordinances based on scientific knowledge. From a small handful of local enforcement agencies, the Association has grown into the largest plumbing code writing body in the world. Records indicate that 14 states have adopted IAPMO's Uniform Plumbing Code as an alternate to their own code. The code is used in more than 8,000 cities and counties, in some 34 states from Alaska to Texas, from Hawaii to Maine. The Uniform Plumbing Code not only has been adopted by more states and jurisdictions, but it protects a far larger number of people than any other. The organization certifies plumbing and mechanical professionals throughout the United States. Meanwhile, substantial modifications to the 2003 edition of the Uniform Plumbing Code required a new course development and delivery system that could deliver highly complex data into a platform that could be easily processed and absorbed by end users.

The Solution:
IAPMO selected Intelladon Corporation as its teaching partner to develop online courses for its plumbing and mechanical programs. Intelladon's award-winning Advanced Learning Platform (ALP(tm)) met all of IAPMO's specific expectations and system requirements to deliver an engaging e-learning solution to several hundred users over the next couple of years. IAPMO is currently utilizing the ALP for assessment conversion-with plans to convert all of its coursework dealing with 2003 changes in the plumbing code. The 2003 edition of the Uniform Plumbing Code is a part of the first fully integrated ANSI-accredited consensus based code set known as the Comprehensive Consensus Codes(tm) (C3). In addition to the UPC and Uniform Mechanical Code, the most widely adopted plumbing and mechanical codes in our country, C3 also includes the foremost codes from other sectors of the construction industry such as NFPA 70 National Electrical Code(r), NFPA 1 Uniform Fire Code(tm), NFPA 101 Life Safety Code(r), and NFPA 5000(tm) Building Construction and Safety Code(tm). The scope of coursework required in effectively defining and explaining each of these codes is extensive, and requires digital adaptation of highly specialized content. Intelladon's ALP specializes in converting complex course data into an interactive learning experience that holds a user's attention and enhances knowledge retention. That's why IAPMO depends on Intelladon as its new partner in online training.

Return on Investment:
Plumbing and mechanical codes are the foundation upon which this organization creates its livelihood. Utilizing emerging e-learning technologies advances the organizations entire mission and thereby positions it for future growth and acceptance within its professional ranks. Members made numerous requests to IAPMO to convert its assessment and continuing education programs to an online environment, and Intelladon gave the organization the power to comply with such requests. They expect immeasurable value derived from brand enhancement, resulting from its commitment to advanced course authoring and digital training technology. IAPMO has already streamlined its assessment process and plans to expand the scope of the ALP to serve as the definitive knowledge delivery tool in the highly specialized fields of plumbing and mechanical engineering. In this respect, Intelladon revolutionizes the process of educating plumbing and mechanical inspectors with expert knowledge of the factors involved in safe plumbing and mechanical systems in order to be effective in their craft and guard the public's safety. This empowers IAPMO to assume a position of international preeminence in the plumbing and mechanical fields.
